The description of MIDI software is out of date in the details, but overall, this is a straightforward, accurate and accessible description of the MIDI protocol and how it is used.

Mpeg.org describes itself as “the most complete and comprehensive index of MPEG resources on the Internet”, but doesn’t really go beyond MPEG-2. It does include links to material about MP3 and AAC, though.
